The game begins by displaying a map of connected hexagons, each representing a battle zone. The ensuing battles are fought on eight different planets. Together they've been enlisted by Earth's leaders to rid the universe of a variety pack of invading space monsters.

True, he's definitely a monster (could you mistake him for anything else?), but in this game he's the hero - along with his gigantic moth-like colleague, Mothra. Make way for Godzilla, Monster of Monsters. If you've felt that a star of his, um, proportions deserves his own Nintendo game, your wish has been granted. Whatever else may be said about the Big Lizard, he's certainly hard to ignore.

Since he first stormed onto movie screens in 1954, Godzilla has cut an impressive figure. However, these are giant monsters so the way that they move does feel pretty fitting and I got used to it. I can see why this can take a while to get used to and it is probably slower-paced than many people want. One of the main complaints that I have seen about this game over the years is that the monsterвЂ™s control like tanks. It has a time attack mode and a few modes where you can look and play around with the monsters too. You also have an online battle mode, this is fun, but I feel this game would have been perfect for couch co-op. It is a neat idea and kind of a greatest hitвЂ™s thing of the Godzilla franchise. Each level is its own contained thing, you will either have to smash a city, protect generators, destroy generators or fight off another monster. The main game mode is called, God of Destruction and this is where you will unlock the characters as you progress. Despite the lack of a story mode, I do feel that Godzilla has enough modes to keep you entertained. One thing that you do have to give them credit for is the game modes. The levels may not be all that detailed, but I think this is by design so that all of the attention is focused firmly on Godzilla and his foes and allies! Protect And Destroy Each of the monsters looks just like you would expect them to. The people behind the game captured the Godzilla universe very well. Hell, they could have even based it on the most recent Godzilla movie and I think that could have worked pretty well. If youвЂ™re not a racist then you will love this game.I was very disappointed by this as I feel that a Godzilla game could have a strong and engaging story. They are basically just ignorant and quite possibly racist and hate the Japanese. Anyone who hates on this game simply donвЂ™t get Godzilla and have unreasonableВ expectations. It has tons of replay value, literally and figuratively. It is a fun game if youвЂ™re a Godzilla fan. But it wonвЂ™t really be a Godzilla game now, would it? This is the most faithful expression of Godzilla in a video game. I donвЂ™t doubt that we can have much better Godzilla- themed games, but whatever games those are will only have Godzilla as a backdrop. What does Godzilla do in the films? This game captures it perfectly. ItвЂ™s a 3D fighter at its core, but what it really is, is a Godzilla simulator. This is the most authentic Godzilla game IвЂ™ve ever seen. If youвЂ™re a true Godzilla fan, if you dig the Toho films shot with guys in rubber costumes stomping around barely convincing miniature cities, then you would absolutely love this game. They are baseless and completely irrational is all I will say about them. IвЂ™m not going to go over all the knocks IвЂ™ve read about it as IвЂ™m not going to validate them.

But this game wouldвЂ™ve greatly benefited from on offline multiplayer feature. IвЂ™m not big on multiplayer, in fact I generally hate it. This is the perfect type of fighting game to have laid-back sessions with against a friend on the couch. You need to go online to play against another player. I said I had two issues with Godzilla but thereвЂ™s also a third one, which is the lack of local multiplayer. This isnвЂ™t a complicated game and while the HUD do provide some useful information, after getting some fights under your belt youвЂ™d have a pretty good feel of how things work and youвЂ™ll be able to operate just fine without the HUD. The only thing worse is my second complaint, which is having no option to turn off the meters. ItвЂ™s a game thatвЂ™s trying so hard to give the most cinematic experience possible, and the glowing boundaries break the immersion. They shouldвЂ™ve left the invisible walls invisible. First are the stupid glowing orange boundaries around the cities. If I were to assign a numerical score to this game, IвЂ™d say 90 out of 100.

Nobody else seems to agree with me, just check out the scores over at Metacritic. Is there something wrong with me? I really, really, love Godzilla for the PS4.
